The Thunder Bay Blues Showcase held at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium was a contest featuring the best Blues bands in the Thunder Bay area. The audience decided that Dr. Buck and the Bluesbangers were the winners of this contest and they went on to open for the Johnny Winter show at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium on March 30th, 2007.

Dr. Buck & the Bluesbangers: In just two years, Dr. Buck & the Bluesbangers have arrived, seemingly out of nowhere, to become one of Thunder Bay’s best blues ensembles. Led by Ray “Dr. Buck” Bukovy whose vocals and guitar riffs get better by the gig, the band features the sparkling guitar playing of Ed Drotar, the warm and funky keyboards of Gary Hare and the locked-in-the-groove rhythm section of Kevin Bukovy (drums/vocals) and Joe Lovanto (bass). This past February, like skilled rock climbers, they scaled the summit of the local blues scene at the fourth annual Northwest Blues Showcase where they were chosen to open for Johnny Winter’s performance at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium and to appear at the sixth annual Thunder Bay Blues Festival. Be sure to arrive at the festival grounds early on Sunday. Dr. Buck & the Bluesbangers will make it worth your while.
